Anthony Frank Hawk was born on May 12, 1968, in San Diego, California. He began skateboarding at age nine and quickly showed exceptional talent, progressing rapidly in vert skating. By his teenage years, he had already turned professional and joined the legendary Powell Peralta Bones Brigade team.
Hawk dominated vert skateboarding throughout the 1980s and 1990s, winning numerous world championships. His landmark achievement came at the 1999 X Games when he landed the first documented 900 - a trick requiring two and a half mid-air rotations. He founded Birdhouse Skateboards and created the iconic Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game series.
